Lyme Hill
The Upper Valley Land Trust opened a network of public trails on Lyme Hill, a lengthy ridge that overlooks River Road and the Connecticut River. Its summit is about a mile up the road from our house. We hiked from their new parking area on the other side of the hill, up to the top and down to River Road, then back along the road to home. Total about 3 miles of gentle terrain. Sadly there is no view from Lyme Hill, though it was likely pasture 100 years ago. At the base of the hill is Gilbert Cemetary, resting place of the first settlers in town. We examined slate gravestones from 1777 through 1784.
